| 课程简介: | The discovery of deterministic chaos that even simple deterministic dynamical system can exhibit complex, random-like behavior is considered as one of the most important in the 20th century. Chaos has been encountered in natural sciences, economics, social sciences and engineering. Notably, chaos theory complements and contributes to mathematical and empirical modeling, prediction and system control. The aim of the talk is to introduce the idea of deterministic chaos in an informal manner. Still, terms like dynamical system, determinism, nonlinearity, instability and sensitivity to initial conditions are introduced. Rather than giving mathematical description of the mentioned terms they are presented through experiment, double pendulum. This simple, yet instructive dynamical system can exhibit different kinds of dynamics, from periodic to chaotic. This way of presentation of chaotic behavior is oriented towards phenomenological and intuitive description of chaotic phenomena and hopefully will give another perspective to understanding of complexity. |
