课程简介: Environmental Chemistry Module authored by Dejene Ayele Teseema. In general this module applies the fundamental principles of chemistry to gain an understanding of the source, fate, and reactivity of compounds in natural and polluted environments. The first unit discusses and familiarizes students with the various divisions of the environment and explains the possible consequences of the overuse of natural resources to foster an appreciation of the catastrophic consequences of negligent human act. In the following units emphasis is given to the hydrosphere, atmosphere, and soils. Environmental issues that will be discussed include atmospheric layers and the chemical reactions taking place in the atmosphere; ozone depletion; atmospheric pollutants and their sources; global warming and acid rain; climate change; water and its special properties; chemical reactions taking place in water bodies; water pollution and sources of pollutants; soil – its formation, characteristics, and pollution.
