课程简介: | Polymerization-induced phase separation in chemically cross-linked systems has been applied to obtain hierarchically porous monolithic materials in a broad range of compositions from metal oxides, metalloxane-based hybrids and even to fully organic polymers. In the case of pure silica, monolithic columns with varied diameter and length have been fabricated and commercialized so far. Due mainly to the freedom of independently controlling the macropore diameter and the thickness of the gel skeletons, monolithic columns can be designed so as to maximize the separation performance while minimizing the column pressure. Extra-large monoliths offer an opportunity to use monolithic silica for preparative purposes. The talk covers the principles of structure control through the sol-gel reaction accompanied by phase separation as well as various technically important problems to be solved in applying the materials to widespread areas of separation sciences. |
